Review for Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas!

Quick View Review

General Rating: **** (4/5)

Amazon Rating: **** (4.6/5)

One Sentence Review: I don’t have any words to describe the complete greatness of Empire of Storms… Although I had a bit of trouble because I didn’t remember much from the first 4 books and haven’t read The Assassin’s Blade, the plot, writing, and character development totally blew me away.

Full Review

The long path to the throne has only just begun for Aelin Galathynius. Loyalties have been broken and bought, friends have been lost and gained, and those who possess magic find themselves at odds with those who don't.

With her heart sworn to the warrior-prince by her side, and her fealty pledged to the people she is determined to save, Aelin will delve into the depths of her power to protect those she loves. But as monsters emerge from the horrors of the past, and dark forces become poised to claim her world, the only chance for salvation will lie in a desperate quest that may mark the end of everything Aelin holds dear. (summary from Amazon)

I don’t… I really have no idea how to form my thoughts into words right now. This book lived up and exceeded the previous books in the series: it was just one of those unforgettable novels I know will stick with me (even though we all have to wait AN ENTIRE YEAR for the final installation *sobs*).

The only bad thing I can say about this book is that there were definitely certain instances where I was really, really confused. I read the fourth book over 6 months ago and have yet to read The Assassin’s Blade, so I really would have appreciated some sort of refresher before I started, without having to reread the entire series (I’m really not much of a rereader). Luckily, most of the time I was able to overlook the things I couldn’t remember, and in my opinion, these instances didn’t take too much away from the plot as a whole. Which leads me to… MY GOODNESS THAT PLOT I DON’T WANT TO SPOIL ANYTHING SO I’M NOT GOING TO SAY A WORD BUT I WAS CONSTANTLY SO STRESSED AND WORRIED AND SARAH J. MAAS DEFINITELY KEPT ME ON MY TOES.

Oh, did I mention my heart was racing? Because there was lots of that too.

Now the characters. Oh my lovely, wonderful little squad. I adored witnessing them grow and develop more and more, watching them transform and become ever stronger. I adored seeing them face off with opponents (even though it terrified me every time), seeing them conquer and show that they’re a force to be reckoned with. I just loved almost every character (because I will never feel love for some of those villains), and I need the 6th book right this moment.

The writing. As always, Maas brought her best. Filled to the brim with gorgeous descriptions and stunning interactions, I fell in love with each and every word.

Overall, there’s just nothing more I can say. You need to pick up Throne of Glass if you haven’t already, and if you’re a TOG fan and have been hesitating to pick up EOS, then I seriously don’t know what you’re waiting for, cause you’re definitely missing out.

Make sure to come back next Wednesday for a new review!

Xoxo,

Jordan
