#ReadaDessen Campaign: Someone Like You Feature!

If you're a fan of contemporaries, Sarah Dessen is definitely the author for you. With 12 books out and another one coming in June, Dessen has set herself up to be the ultimate master of the YA contemporary.

In preparation for Dessen's upcoming novel, Once and for All out June 2nd, Penguin Teen is hosting a readalong for each of Dessen's books, beginning this week with That Summer and Someone Like You. I couldn't be more excited to be a part of this campaign and to bring you a post telling you all you need to know about Someone Like You, a one-of-a-kind coming-of-age story that tackles the subject of teen pregnancy head-on.

Amazon Summary:

The world is a terrible place not to have a best friend. Scarlett was always the strong one. Halley was always content to follow in her wake. Then Scarlett’s boyfriend died, and Scarlett learned that she was pregnant. Now Halley has to find the strength to take the lead and help Scarlett get through it. Because true friendship is a promise you keep forever.

I was provided a copy for review; however, this does not affect my thoughts of the book.

Mini Review: I definitely had some problems with this book, but one thing I appreciated was how it discussed teen pregnancy: I felt that Dessen portrayed Scarlett's situation in a realistic manner, but the story came across as respectful and accepting. In addition, I enjoyed Scarlett and Halley's friendship, although I did feel that some of their interactions came off as stale and overly formal. Where this book was lacking was in romance and character development: I almost didn't see the point of including the love story at all, and felt that Halley was the same person at the end of the novel and at the very start.

And now some info about Once and for All, out June 2nd!

Amazon Summary:

Is it really better to have loved and lost? Louna's summer job is to help brides plan their perfect day, even though she stopped believing in happily-ever-after when her first love ended tragically. But charming girl-magnet Ambrose isn't about to be discouraged now that he's met the one he really wants. Maybe Louna's second chance is standing right in front of her.
